Cheryl was born and raised in the Twin Cities area, grew up in Bloomington, and graduated from Bloomington Lincoln High School. Cheryl studied Political Science and Business Administration at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California earning her Bachelor of Art’s degree. She then returned to Minnesota where she earned her Master of Business Administration degree at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

While visiting friends in California, she met her husband Kirk, who happened to be working in Southern California after growing up and graduating from college in his native Texas. They live in South Minneapolis with two children and their dog Charlie. Son Grant is a high school Senior, while daughter Jenna is studying health care at the University of St. Catherine in St. Paul.

Cheryl has extensive experience in personal financial planning, having worked in the industry since 1993. She started her own financial planning practice with Ameriprise Financial, and grew it into a thriving practice before deciding to sell her practice in order to spend time with her children when they were young. She continued in the field working with and helping several of her friends manage their financial planning practices, before deciding that she missed working with her own clients and helping them meet their financial goals, and thus Cheryl Ober Financial Planning was born.

Cheryl loves to spend her free time with her husband watching their daughter perform at Circus Juventus (she’s an amazing contortionist and aerialist) and their son perform with the school band, as well as baking beautiful sugar cookies. Cheryl was an active volunteer at her children’s schools while they were growing up and a lead usher and concession volunteer at Circus Juventus where her daughter trained and performed.
